Social Entrepreneurs Ireland – I made the Finals

Social Entrepreneurs Ireland are a charitable organisation that aims to encourage and support the development of a new generation of social entrepreneurs. They directly support the early stage development of these social entrepreneurs by providing a range of supports that include financial investment, technical training, peer networking, mentoring and links to other social entrepreneur networks.

They also work actively with the business, third level, public and voluntary sectors to support the development of a new social entrepreneurship movement in Ireland. [read more…]

I have been kind of busy lately, traveling around to spread the word about Grace App in schools and centres for Autism.

Grace App was developed in partnership with O2 Telefonica’s “Business Diversity” program and before they moved on from Autism Ireland they donated a set of iPhones to be loaned out to schools and groups for people to try out Grace App. When the group or school gets in touch, I come out to the venue with the loan phone and do bit of a hands on workshop with staff and parents to ensure everyone understands how it works. The Commitment Contract – You Need Them to Need You

How many parents fall into the trap of giving their kids independent access to everything they need, and miss out on the opportunities to create and increase the frequency of demands and requests.

In Behavioural Science there is a made up word to describe requests, demands or commands made by a speaker by whatever means. B.F. Skinner called these “Mands”.

And we must ensure that our language or learning delayed children have the ability to make a lot of Mands appropriately – as it is the most motivating way to teach language, for someone who isn’t naturally socially motivated. And you can prompt it. [read more…]
